end the year
more so than memories
I write them all down
in the vague belief
someday it will be crystal clear
there's no sense in hanging my head
for the things that I've done
and I count stars while I can't sleep
it doesn't make a difference to anyone
and some lullabies are said
without spoken words
and the song remains the same

just like castaways
we found these old stones
and we try to give them a home
what are words without meaning
they're like drifting off into space
without a place, without a home to stay

casting shadows from our fading fears
